Other ways to get into Europe

Blackburn enters the Intertoto Cup. The UEFA Intertoto Cup, which traditionally begins in June, is open to clubs who finished directly behind the qualifiers for UEFA's two major club competitions in their respective domestic championships. The format of the UEFA Intertoto Cup changed for the 2006/07 season with three knockout two-legged rounds now played instead of the previous five. The eleven victorious sides from the UEFA Intertoto Cup third round advance to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup, which replaces the old system where the winners of three finals all progressed into the UEFA Cup first round.

Aston Villa are in the 10-club draw for two places in the Uefa Cup via the Fair Play League.

The UEFA Fair Play Competition gives three countries the chance to enter an additional club for the UEFA Cup. UEFA maintains a ranking list based on all national and club matches played between June 1 and May 31 in all UEFA competitions except the UEFA Regions Cup. The association that tops the ranking automaticly qualifies for a UEFA Cup place. All associations which achieved an average of 8 points or more go into a draw to determine the other two places.
The three UEFA Cup places go to the club which won the domestic fair play competition. For this purpose each association maintains a ranking list based on matches in the national league and cup. If the winner already qualified for one of the UEFA competitions the next club on the domestic fair play ranking gets the UEFA Cup place.
