Milan to retire No. 3....temporarily

Milan will retire Paolo Maldini's no. 3 shirt when he decides to retire. Not a permanent retirement though. The no. 3 will be reserved for a future Maldini if one makes it into the Milan squad.

Vice-President Adriano Galliani has this to say “The shirt will be reserved until his son Cristian or any other children of Paolo’s manage to play in Serie A with Milan. The shirt is retired temporarily, this is a family story and that jersey belongs only to the Maldinis.”

Not suprisingly, Paolo's son, Cristian, 9, is already a star in Milan's youth system.
If he makes it, he would become the third generation of the Maldini family to play for the club after Cesare and son Paolo.
