The Rossonerii lineup has not much changed throughout the tournament and ditto for the final tonight. Milan come into this game after losing 3-2 to Udinese in the Serie A. As such Liverpool, Milan fielded a second string squad temselves. We expect 4-5-1 formation with a Christmas Tree shape. Here is how they expect to form up at kickoff.
Dida
Oddo Nesta Kaladze/Maldini Jankulovski
Gattuso Pirlo Ambrosini
Kaka Seedorf
Inzaghi/Gilardino
Maldini will face a last minute fitness test to make it into the 1st eleven. If he doesnt make it, Kaladze will be an able replacement. Oddo and Jankulovski will the fullbacks. They were very effective in attack in thier semi final clash against ManYoo.
The main strength of this team is the midfield. They boast the best midfielders in the world. For defensive duties, they have Ambrosini and Gattuso to protect the back four. Look for them to press Liverpool's midfield like they did agst Man Yoo. Gerrard wont be allowed time on the ball. They will know, stop Gerrard, stop Liverpool. They will also be the shield for thier quarter back, Andrea Pirlo. Pirlo, along with Kaka, are the playmakers and heartbeat of the team. Pirlo has the knack to find killer passes and his range are similar to that of Xabi Alonso. He is also feared as a set piece specialist. Clarence Seedorf will play in front of those 3. An experienced veteran of the tournament, his creativity and experience could prove a factor to unlock Liverpools mean defence.
Ancelotti will need to decide which frontman to lead the line. Inzaghi has a knack of scoring important goals while Gilardino is a better team player and is more involved in building up attacks. Ancelotti has already selected his team but has decided to keep mum about it.
The main threat will come from Kaka. The Brazillian is the top scorer with 10 goals. He has the ability to run past defenders and score goals with both feet. His game is simple. There are no falshy skills. His ability to find and create space for himself is the reason why defenders find it difficult to keep tabs on him. Look for him to play the free role behind the frontman. He will float in the zone between oppostion midfield and defence. A dangerous person especially on the counter attack, Kaka could prove to be the match winner tonight.
