Gilberto Silva will miss start of season


Arsenal will miss Gilberto's services for their first-leg Champions League qualifier in early August and their opening Premiership fixture on 11 August. This is due to his Copa America commitments. He will have a rest after his tournament and that rest will result him missing the first two mathces of the season.

The Brazilian said: "I have spoken to Arsene and he is aware of the situation. I will have a rest after the Copa America and will miss the first few games of the campaign because I'll be doing my own pre-season."

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas admits he hopes to return to Barcelona.
Cesc told Catalunya Radio: "People who know me already know my hopes. I hope there is an opportunity to return. At the moment Barca has great players like Xavi and Andres Iniesta, which we see in the national team, but there's always hope."

Arsenal and Liverpool have made contact with Celta Vigo this week over the availability of midfielder Borja Oubina.
