Chelsea sign another British youngster

Chelsea have signed Sheffield United teenager Jacob Mellis. The 16-year-old midfielder joined Chelsea after four years with the Yorkshire club.

United could earn up to £1.3million for Mellis, who was a regular for the club's reserve team last season.

The England youth international joins former Oldham teenager Danny Philliskirk at Stamford Bridge.

"It is disappointing to lose such a talent. We made a great effort to keep hold of Jacob but he made it clear that he wanted to leave." United chairman Terry Robinson told the club's official website.
