The "Big Four" News

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is an admirer of the France international, while Sir Alex Ferguson has also been chasing the striker for the past 12 months. Arsenal and Newcastle United are also in the picture.

Manchester United
Claudio Ranieri is also interested in Man Utd's Rossi after working with the youngster at Parma.

Man Utd Ben Foster is set to undergo surgery in 3 weeks time after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee.
Sunderland boss Roy Keane hopes to bring Manchester United fullback Danny Simpson back to Wearside next season after having him on loan last season.

Alan Smith has been informed by Manchester United that he won't be getting a new contract. The Sun says the news will trigger a bidding war - with Spurs, Everton, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa all keen to land him.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to push through plans to bring a new striker to Old Trafford this summer. With Louis Saha also prone to injury,Alan Smith still working his way back to full fitness and Solksjaer undergoing another knee surgery this week, Ferguson would appear to be overly reliant on Wayne Rooney.

Chelsea
Chelsea are ready to approach Internacional de Porto Alegre for their starlet Alexandre Pato. Inter have indicated they're ready to listen to offers for the 17 year-old after Porto made contact last week regarding the striker's availability.

New Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri is trying to take advantage of Lampard's slow moving contract negotiations by submitting a bid. It has been claimed that lampard has rejected Chelsea's offer of a 140,000 pounds per week wages.

Chelsea has enquired on the availability of Italian veteran striker Alessandro Del Piero.

Chelsea are monitoring Kieron Dyer's situation at Newcastle United.


Liverpool
Liverpool have approached Lazio for midfielder Gaby Mudingayi. Liverpool, AC Milan and Olympique Lyon have all been in contact with Lazio.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has spoken with the club's American owners about improving Eduardo Macia's current contract. Valencia president Juan Soler has sounded out Macia about returning to the Mestalla to replace sports director Amedao Carboni next season and Benitez is determined not to lose his right-hand man.

Liverpool are ready to discuss a swap involving Xabi Alonso for Barcelona star Samuel Eto'o. The Times says there has been a disturbing lack of progress in talks with Xabi over a new contract. If he does not sign a new contract, he is likely to be offered to Barcelona as a makeweight in a deal to sign Samuel Eto'o, the Cameroon forward, who is an ambitious target.

Liverpool management are drawing up a bid for AS Roma's exciting winger Amantino Mancini. The Times says Mancini is the subject of serious discussion inside Anfield amid growing optimism that he can be lured to Merseyside.

Sevilla wing-back Daniel Alves won't rule out joining Liverpool this summer. Chelsea have already met the Seville star's agent while Real Madrid are also confident of winning the race for the Brazilian. Alves, 25, revealed Liverpool bid for him in 2005 and 2006 - and he is a huge Steven Gerrard fan. He said: "It's true Liverpool tried to sign me, but the clubs didn't reach an agreement. I like to watch Gerrard playing. He puts 100 per cent effort into every ball."

AS Roma, Everton and Newcastle United are reputedly tracking Zenden, who has been released by Liverpool.

Manchester City have expressed interest in Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse. Marseilles, Bolton Wanderers and Benfica are also said to be interested.


Arsenal
Birmingham City remain confident of snapping up Arsenal defender Johan Djourou on-loan.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to send Spanish teenager Fran Merida back home.

The Mirror says Merida, 17, could join Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan.
