As Rafa Benitez and Jose Mourinho shook hands at the end of their clubs’ titanic tussle on Sunday, it would be of no surprise if the Portuguese coach had more reason to smile than his Spanish counterpart after Liverpool and Chelsea played out a 1-1 draw at Anfield.
And how could Mourinho not be happy? After all, lady luck smiled on Mourinho as a highly contentious penalty decision gave his side the breakthrough they so desperately needed in order to avoid defeat for the 17th consecutive match dating back to last season. After injuries that affected last season’s campaign as well as the start of the current one, Mourinho may have thought that this was just a matter of things canceling themselves out as this time fate dealt the Blues a favorable hand.

The referees make mistakes but until the players stop diving and trying to kid the officials then things will never improve. The players have to accept some resonsbility themselves and FIFA have to give in and use the technology that is now available, otherwise the game is just a lottery.
