Inter Milan defeated Juventus 1-0 to win the Birra Moretti Trophy. A 2nd minute strike from Cesar Aparecido separated the two sides.
Birra Moretti, or simply Moretti, was an Italian brewing company, founded in Udine in 1859 by Luigi Moretti. In 1996 the company was acquired by Heineken Italia, that later sold the original Moretti's brewing plant in Udine to the new Castello beer company; so now Moretti is only a brand of Heineken Italia, brewed in its various different plants in Italy. It is particularly known outside Italy for its Moretti Doppio Malto and La Rossa, an amber lager made approximately in the German Bock style.
Since 1997, Birra Moretti sponsors a yearly football friendly tournament between 3 Italian football teams called by invitation (even though Inter has been the only team who participated in all editions) where the winner is entitled to the Birra Moretti Cup. The last competition consisted of the squads of Juventus, Inter and Napoli and took place in the San Paolo Stadium
